Oklahoma City’s sharpest logophiles will be at the OKC Metro Literacy Coalition’s 6th Annual Scrabble® Showdown on Thursday, October 1st at the Castle Falls Event Center.
This entertaining Scrabble® tournament, presented by Irish Realty and Main Street Parking, raises awareness of the importance of literacy service in the community and celebrates the work of literacy organizations around the metro area. News 9’s Alex Cameron will emcee the event. Proceeds benefit the Oklahoma City Metro Literacy Coalition, which provides tutor support, awards GED testing fee scholarships, sponsors D.E.A.R. Day (Drop Everything and Read Day) at the state capitol, hosts opportunities for professional development and collaboration within the literacy community, and connects learners and volunteers to literacy services.
In the Recreational/Amateur Tournament, participants play in teams of two. Each team will play three full rounds, guaranteeing an entire evening of play. The entry fee is $50.00 per team ($25.00 per person). For Recreational/Amateur players, assists, “cheat sheets,” and additional letters are available for purchase at the event.
The Club/Professional Tournament is a one-on-one competition. If you want tougher competition, this is the division for you! Three full rounds are guaranteed. The entry fee is $25.00 per person. E-readers are awarded to winners in both divisions.
Tickets can be purchased at www.okcliteracycoalition.org. Entry fee includes food and drinks. Spectator tickets can also be purchased at the door. An extensive silent auction and drawings for prizes are held throughout the evening. Doors open at 5:00 pm and the games begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. Castle Falls Event Center is located at 820 N. MacArthur Blvd in Oklahoma City.
