Nine Oklahoma State Legislators along with volunteers from Oklahoma City Metro Literacy Coalition (OKCMLC) and Feed The Children answered the call. The Oklahoma City Public Schools Volunteer Department partnered with OKCMLC and Feed the Children to bring 370 Second Graders to the Oklahoma State Capitol to celebrate our fifth annual D.E.A.R. DAY (Drop Everything and Read Day).

Senators Kim David and Gary Stanislawski, Representatives Will Fourkiller, Jeffrey Hickman, James Lockhart, Jason Nelson, David Perryman, Anastasia Pittman and Ben Sherrer read to and visited with the children. We chose a book called “The Wild Adventures of Oklahoma Joe and His Ten Gallon Hat” by Hall Duncan, an Oklahoma author whose book reveals the history of the State of Oklahoma, Native Americans and cowboys. We hope this field trip inspires children to read more and learn more.
